In this paper the author observes how prophetism within African traditional religions resurfaces in the Christian churches. Prophetism may be defined as the accrediting of exceptional spiritual powers to an individual who serves as an intermediary to a deity. He traces the influence of classical Pentecostalism later enhanced by American prosperity teaching, showing how these have led to the emergence of new "super–charismatic" prophetic figures today.
